NHRA Drag Racing on ESPN

They do motor-racing differently in America. Across the pond, Formula 1 means next-to-nothing and the banked oval thrills of NASCAR and IndyCar provide State-side petrol-heads with their fix of side-by-side action. There is an exception, though…. Back in America’s Prohibition days, drivers who could perform a quick-fire getaway were highly prized, and that’s the story behind drag racing; the discipline which prizes a fast start over a quarter of a mile.

These jet-fuel-powered monsters are like no other racing-cars to be seen on television and race to upwards of 300mph before crossing the finish-line and deploying a specially-designed parachute to then slow them down. Or, at least that’s the theory. Just ask Richard Hammond…

Tune in to see racing-cars a full 100mph faster than Formula 1 machines only on ESPN.
