
ESPN presents one of the top boxing brands from all over the world: World Series of Boxing (WSB) is a ground-breaking, one of a kind league. The first truly global professional boxing league that brings together the best Olympic Boxers in international Franchise teams to compete in five weight categories being Bantam (50-54kg), Light (57-61kg), Middle (68-73kg), Light Heavy (80-85kg) and Heavy (91+kg). WSB is known as the only pro-style team competition where boxers retain their Olympic eligibility. It brings together the best Olympic boxers representing their country in an explosive format with a worldwide appeal. With more Olympic medalists coming on board, pro boxers now allowed to compete and exciting new rules being implemented, expect another 370 high octane fights until May 2013.
Competition Format: Each team has a minimum of 15 boxers, with a minimum of three boxers in each of the five weight categories. Each team is made up of boxers that compete on a national level and boxers that compete on an international level. Teams compete in one home and one away match against every other team in the same group. The regular season takes place over 10 weeks followed by the Play-Off Series that is competed over 8 weeks. The Play-Off Series consists of four Quarter-finals, two Semi-finals and one Final match. The top four teams in each group will go through to the playoffs.
