ESPN SECURES RIGHTS TO ATP AND WTA TENNIS EVENTS

  • ESPN to bring UK and Ireland viewers eleven ATP World Tour 250 and three WTA events
  • Tournaments set to feature Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Murray
  • Sports media company continues to broaden range of sports properties

ESPN has secured the rights to televise 14 ATP World Tour 250 events during 2012, featuring some of tennis’ top stars, as well as three WTA International tournaments.

ESPN’s tennis coverage will give viewers the chance to see some of the world’s top tennis stars as they compete on the ATP circuit for valuable ranking points between Grand Slams. ESPN’s coverage of the ATP World Tour 250 begins on Friday 13th April with the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston, set to feature world number eight, Mardy Fish. It is one of the first clay court tournaments of the season, as players begin to prepare for the French Open.

Focus on the clay circuit continues in the first week of May with the Estoril Open in Portugal – won last year by current world number 11 Juan Martin Del Potro – and the Serbia Open, which world number one Novak Djokovic won last year. The week before the French Open will see ESPN’s coverage from Open de Nice Côte D’Azur, which last year featured David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych, as players make their final preparations on clay before Roland Garros. Coverage continues with 7 more tournaments from July to September.

ESPN will also have coverage of three WTA International events – clay tournaments in Estoril and Strasbourg, and the season finale indoor Tournament of Champions in Sofia, which was won in 2011 by Serbian star Ana Ivanovic.
